National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sri Balaji Arts & Science College, Kolapakkam, Vandalur, Chennai, functions with the motto “Not Me, But You”, aiming to inculcate social responsibility, leadership qualities, and community service among students.
The NSS unit actively engages students in various social welfare activities that contribute to the holistic development of their personality and promote a sense of civic duty. Through continuous involvement in community-oriented programs, NSS volunteers gain practical experience in social service while developing teamwork, discipline, and empathy.
During the academic year, the NSS unit organized and participated in several activities such as cleanliness drives, awareness programs, health camps, blood donation camps, environmental protection initiatives, tree plantation drives, road safety awareness, Swachh Bharat activities, and celebrations of important national days. Special camps and outreach programs were also conducted in nearby villages to address social, environmental, and health-related issues.
The NSS unit also played an active role in creating awareness on health and hygiene, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and social harmony. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in rallies, campaigns, and interactive sessions aimed at educating the public and students on social responsibilities.
The NSS activities were carried out under the effective guidance of the Principal, with the support of faculty members and the dedicated efforts of NSS Programme Officers. The enthusiastic participation of students ensured the successful implementation of all programs.
Through its continuous service initiatives, the NSS unit of the college strives to develop socially responsible citizens who are committed to the welfare of society and nation-building.

🚦 Road Safety Awareness Quiz Competition Organized by NSS
A Road Safety Awareness Quiz Competition was successfully conducted on 13th December 2026 at the Seminar Hall under the guidance of the NSS Coordinator, Mr. C. Manikumar.
The event was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about traffic rules, road safety measures, and responsible citizenship. Students from various departments enthusiastically participated in the competition, demonstrating their knowledge and awareness of road safety practices.
The quiz consisted of multiple rounds that tested participants on traffic regulations, road signs, accident prevention measures, and general safety guidelines. The competition was both informative and engaging, encouraging students to become more conscious road users.
Winners were awarded prizes in recognition of their excellent performance. The event concluded successfully with appreciation from faculty members and participants for the valuable initiative taken by the NSS unit.
The program served as an important step towards promoting road safety awareness among students and fostering responsible behavior on the roads.
Free Eye Screening Camp Report
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sri Balaji Arts & Science College, Kolapakkam, Vandalur, Chennai, in association with Vasan Eye Care Hospital, successfully organized a Free Eye Screening Camp on 22nd January 2026 at 9.30 a.m. in the Admission Hall of the college campus.
The camp was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about eye health and providing free eye check-ups to students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff. A team of experienced ophthalmologists and medical professionals from Vasan Eye Care Hospital carried out comprehensive eye examinations, including vision testing and preliminary screening for common eye problems.
A large number of students and staff members actively participated and benefited from the camp. The medical team also offered guidance on eye care practices and advised participants who required further treatment or detailed examination.
The NSS unit expresses its sincere gratitude to Vasan Eye Care Hospital for their valuable service and support in promoting eye health and community well-being.
World First Aid Day Competitions
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college organized various competitions on the occasion of World First Aid Day. The events aimed to create awareness about the importance of first aid and to encourage students to showcase their talents.
The competitions included Elocution (English/Tamil), Essay Writing (English/Tamil), and Drawing. A large number of students participated enthusiastically and expressed their views on the significance of first aid through powerful speeches, creative essays, and artistic drawings.
The event helped in spreading awareness about first aid practices among students and highlighted the role of youth in promoting health and safety in society. The winners were appreciated and motivated to continue contributing actively in such awareness programs.
Report on Rally – Awareness of Drug Free Tamil Nadu
The NSS Unit in collaboration with the ANI – Drug Committee organized a Rally on Awareness of Drug Free Tamil Nadu on 29/08/2025. The main objective of the rally was to create awareness among the public, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, drug-free society.
The rally was flagged off by our Principal Dr. J Anudevi and Director Mr. Radhakrishnan], and a large number of NSS volunteers and students actively participated, carrying placards, banners, and raising slogans emphasizing the message “Say No to Drugs – Yes to Life.” The participants marched through the main streets, spreading awareness and encouraging the community to join the mission for a drug-free Tamil Nadu.
Faculty members, local authorities, and the public appreciated the initiative, acknowledging the importance of collective action in combating the menace of drugs. The rally instilled a sense of responsibility among students and highlighted the role of youth in building a healthy and progressive state.
The Awareness Rally on Drug Free Tamil Nadu was a remarkable success, spreading a powerful message of hope, health, and determination against drug abuse.
The NSS Department, in association with RELA Hospital, organized an “Organ Donation & Drug Abuse Prevention Awareness Programme” on campus. The programme aimed at sensitizing students to the importance of organ donation and the harmful impact of drug abuse in society.
The session was led by the distinguished Resource Person, Dr. K. Ramasubramanian, MBBS, MD, PDCC (Cardiac Anaesthesia) from RELA Hospital. He delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the value of organ donation as a selfless act that saves lives and explained the medical and legal aspects involved in the process.
Dr. Ramasubramanian also addressed the growing menace of drug abuse among youth. He explained its adverse effects on physical health, mental stability, and social well-being. With real-life examples and medical perspectives, he motivated students to remain drug-free and to spread awareness among peers.
The programme witnessed active participation from students, who interacted with the resource person and clarified their doubts. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating both the NSS Department and RELA Hospital for their collaborative effort in organizing such a meaningful awareness initiative.
